Reaching, Indianapolis

Reaching is a monumental bronze sculpture by artist Zenos Frudakis. Two 7-foot-high figures—one female and one male—reach toward one another, creating a dynamic visual dialogue. The sculpture's setting at the Indianapolis Capital Center extends this visual relationship: two adjacent buildings rise behind the figures and are connected at their base.

Reaching was installed at the Indianapolis Capital Center on July 31, 1987. It is the original cast of the sculpture.

In 1990, a second cast of Reaching was exhibited at the Third Rodin Grand Prize Exhibition at the Utsukushi-ga-hara Open-Air Museum in Japan, where it received the Hakone Award and subsequently entered the museum's permanent collection.

Reaching has been realized in multiple castings, with works located in Indianapolis, Japan, and, soon, at Uncommon Ground in Edmond, Oklahoma.
