Penn State Coach Joseph Paterno to be sculpted by Zenos Frudakis

After reviewing the works of a number of sculptors, Kimberly Intorre, leading the initiative to create a sculpture of Penn State Coach Joe Paterno for State College, chose Zenos Frudakis for the $300,000 commission. “I feel confident in his ability to create an outstanding bronze sculpture to honor Joe Paterno, who did so many good things for our community,” she said.

The sculpture, in association with a group called Joe’s Bench, is one of two tributes planned for the late Mr. Paterno. The second artwork will be a film about Mr. Paterno now in progress by the Porterfield Group. The film will include Zenos at work on the sculpture and clips from interviews done while the sculpture is in progress in the studio and at the foundry. Fundraising for the film and the sculpture will begin with an Indigogo fundraiser.

Several sites within the borough of State College are under consideration for placement of the sculpture. No dedication date has been chosen.
